Handmade journals

The last two weeks were really good because I was busy, on top of a couple of days of glorious sunshine! Really delighted to receive a few custom orders for handmade journals.

While I was organizing my paper stash, I saw some old paper in bright yellow and pale green colours which I have kept for a good while now. I found these from my husband’s box of documents while we were moving his stuffs from Amsterdam. Such a waste to bin it as it has a nice, smooth texture and a musty smell of old paper, and that made me decide to bind the sheets into a journal. They had punched holes on one side intended for binders, so I used a steel ruler to tear an inch off on all four sides of the paper.I then folded them in half and tucked into signatures which I then bound using coptic stitching. For the covers, I used a thick board covered with a book cloth and reinforced the holes with small metal eyelets. I’m still partial about the eyelets, it has to match the thickness of the board perfectly for it to work flawlessly. I don’t know, I have to keep trying I guess.

I love kraft paper and brown paper and everything natural! I used this scrumptious 250gsm kraft scrapbooking paper to cover these two custom journals. They’re A5 in size with 60 pages of 120gsm heavy and smooth unbleached recycled paper made from 100% post-consumer waste. My paper supplier is a small family-owned company in Dublin supplying quality, ecological products for the last 26 years and it has always been a pleasure to buy from them.

These coptic stitched journals open flat, they’re perfect as sketchbooks too, or even as calligraphy practice books.

Thank you for reading, enjoy the rest of your day!
